چکیده

Simulation of real-world traffic scenarios is widely needed in virtual environments. Different from many previous works on simulating vehicles or pedestrians separately, our approach aims to capture the realistic process of vehicle–pedestrian interaction for mixed traffic simulation. We model a decision-making process for their interaction based on a gap acceptance judging criterion and then design a novel environmental feedback mechanism for both vehicles’ and pedestrians’ behavior-control models to drive their motions. We demonstrate that our proposed method can soundly model vehicle–pedestrian interaction behaviors in a realistic and efficient manner and is convenient to be plugged into various traffic simulation systems. An Assessment of the Impact of Pedestrian Refuge Islands on Vehicle Speed Changes and Pedestrian Safety: Case Study in Tehran

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable road users. Speed of vehicles is considered as one of the major causes of danger for pedestrians crossing the street. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to devise suitable solutions to reduce speed of vehicles. One of these solutions is installation of Pedestrian Refuge Islands (PRI) in very wide midblocks. With regard to fluctuations in pedestrian a...

A CA-based Model for Simulating Vehicular-Pedestrian Mixed Flows in a Congested Network

In design of evacuation plans for major metropolises, it should be recognized that a potentially large number of evacuees depend either on transit or other modes for evacuation, or need to walk over a distance to access their cars. In the process of approaching some designated pick-up points or intermediate destinations, the massive number of pedestrians may incur tremendous burden to vehicles ...

A Bi-Modal Microsimulation Tool for the Assessment of Pedestrian Delays and Traffic Management

There is now increasing emphasis on managing the urban transport for the benefit of all road users, particularly on the promotion of walking and cycling as more environmentally friendly modes of transport. Dynamic traffic signal controls in respond to pedestrian demand have been developed which give the flexibility and control to the network controllers to manage pedestrian and vehicle interact...

A study of pedestrian-vehicle accidents in Iran in 2013

Background: In recent decades, ‎due to the increase in users of roads and inadequate attention to the creation and development of appropriate passageways for traffic, there has been a growing trend in traffic accidents and casualties caused by them. The traffic accidents among pedestrians to take necessary measures in a timely fashion should be well studied. This study was conducted with th...
